To find out more details about what I did over the course of my Internship, please do have a look at the blog I kept over this time - click here.
During my time at University, I decided to undertake a work placement at WN Interiors in Poole.  I found it very helpful going on placement because it helped me to understand the side of the industry that we do not learn so much about at university. It also allowed me to see how a real company functions and the processes they go through to get to a final design solution.

I built upon software skills that I already have acquired over the two full years that I have been at university so far. These skills include; Google Sketchup, Adobe Photoshop, and AutoCAD.  I learnt how to source materials and furniture from suppliers, by using an extensive list of contacts to find out more information, like trade and retail prices on several projects at my placement. On the topic of prices and finance, I also worked with my supervisor, to learn how some of the financial elements of the industry work - she showed me how to log expenses, and the importance of VAT.

I would say that the main ‘skill’ I learnt during my time at my placement was definitely communication. I learnt how to communicate with clients, and how to communicate ideas clearly. I feel that good communication is a great attribute to have as it shows that you listen  and want to deliver the best possible work to the client. I feel that this is a skill that is best learned through experience of the industry, as before starting my placement, I would not have been very confident in this.
Above is an animation I created during my time at Placement for a studio, and below are some images that I took during the 10 weeks I spent there. To see more, please visit my blog that I kept during this time here.
